CVEC Ends Contract with Alabama One Call
TALLADEGA, Ala. - Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative announced today that it has ended its contract with Alabama One Call.
Alabama One Call is a toll-free statewide service through which residents can have underground utilities located. As its name suggests, residents can with one call request that any underground water pipes, sewage pipes, gas lines, electrical lines and telephone wires be located on their property.
"We signed up with Alabama One Call with the intent of providing better service to our customers," said Frank Kujawski, general manager of Coosa Valley Electric. "After several months using the service, however, we found we can more efficiently serve our consumers if we handle the line locating calls on our own."
Coosa Valley Electric signed on with Alabama One Call in January but decided to end the agreement after encountering conflicts with the service's grid system.
Coosa Valley Electric customers needing line location services can contact the cooperative's main office at 1-800-273-7210.
WARNING: Residents should contact the cooperative if they intend to do any landscaping or building projects that require digging. Buried electrical lines can cause serious injury and even death if cut and cost the resident thousands of dollars in fines.
Service location requests should be submitted at least two business days prior to the date of the work.
Coosa Valley Electric, which serves more than 15,000 customers in Talladega, St. Clair, Shelby, Clay, Etowah and Calhoun counties, is a Touchstone Energy7 cooperative. Nationwide, some 1,000 cooperatives provide power to rural America, and 570 of those operate under the Touchstone Energy umbrella.
