CVEC CHAP, Blood Drive Enjoy Success
TALLADEGA, Ala. - Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative held a successful blood
drive and Community Health Awareness Program Wednesday, July 11.
Held in cooperation with the North Talladega County Chapter of the American
Red Cross, the blood drive garnered 35 pints of blood from Coosa Valley employees
and members. Red Cross personnel performed the blood draws for the donations.
The Red Cross as well held a blood drive at its office in downtown Talladega
and collected 21 pints.
For the CHAP program, some 122 people participated. The CHAP screenings check
for levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, potassium, liver enzymes and glucose
in the blood.
Participants should receive their results within two weeks.
Personnel from Citizens Baptist Medical Center performed the CHAP program blood
draws.
"We are excited about the turnout for this event," said Frank Kujawski,
general manager for CVEC. "We were glad to see so many in the community
took advantage of this opportunity, and we hope to see participation grow even
more with future programs."
Coosa Valley's last blood drive was held in January and raised 34 pints of blood.
The previous CHAP program took place in April and screened 86 people.
