Cooperative’s CFO Wins Statewide Recognition

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Thursday, April 08 – The Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives (AREA) today presented Leland Fuller, chief financial officer for Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative, with the Jack Jenkins Award here.

Mr. Fuller was recognized by his peers for his tireless efforts with charitable organizations, schools and other groups, land-improvement and beautification projects and economic development in addition to his leadership in helping to guide the cooperative through some of its most troubled years.

Specifically, Mr. Fuller worked to help establish and operate the Red Door Kitchen in Talladega and has been instrumental in raising money for the ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens) of North Talladega County by helping organize the Sunshine Saturday event held each May.

Through his job at Coosa Valley Electric, Mr. Fuller has worked to attract new businesses and some 1,300 jobs to the area and helped develop several industrial parks in north Talladega County.

“Mr. Fuller is a very dedicated employee,” said Frank Kujawski, CVEC general manager. “Despite all of his contributions and hard work, I have witnessed him on many occasions taking the back seat when it comes to receiving credit. And I have had people from all walks of life tell me what a good and valued person he is. Mr. Fuller is truly a mover and a shaker with nothing but the best intentions at heart for his community and the cooperative.”

The Jack Jenkins Cooperative Employee Citizenship Award honors and pays tribute to a current cooperative employee who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her cooperative, community and/or state. It is meant to honor a cooperative employee who has gone beyond the normal call of duty. The award also seeks to recognize an employee who has contributed in a significant way to the betterment of his or her community or state and has made a significant improvement to the human condition. The recipient must be an employee in good standing at an AREA member cooperative.

The award is named after the late Jack Jenkins, a long-time employee of the Rural Electrification Administration and the Rural Utility Services.

Coosa Valley Electric, which serves more than 15,000 consumers in Talladega, St. Clair, Shelby, Etowah, Clay and Calhoun counties, is a Touchstone Energy® cooperative. Nationwide, some 1,000 cooperatives provide power to rural America, and more than 600 of those operate under the Touchstone Energy umbrella.
