CVEC Consumers in Ohatchee Area Lose Power

TALLADEGA, Ala. – More than 1,000 Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative consumers living in the Ohatchee area lost power Thursday afternoon.

At about 1:50 p.m. problems with Alabama Power transmission lines knocked out power to CVEC’s Ohatchee substation. Cooperatives will switch loads to its Coosa River substation as quickly as time allows, but advises those residents who rely on life-support devices to seek an alternative location. Residents who rely on oxygen should make sure they have a full backup oxygen tank.

While Coosa Valley Electric does not purchase power from Alabama Power, the cooperative does wheel power across Alabama Power transmission lines.

Coosa Valley Electric, which serves more than 15,500 customers in Talladega, St. Clair, Shelby, Clay, Etowah and Calhoun counties, is a Touchstone Energy® cooperative. Nationwide, some 1,000 cooperatives provide power to rural America, and 570 of those operate under the Touchstone Energy umbrella.
