When a consumer is found to be receiving unauthorized, unmetered service, or
the meter has been tampered with to reverse or slow metered usage, the following
actions will be taken.
Pictures are to be taken of the residence, meter box and conditions surrounding
the diversion.
The service will be disconnected.
The consumer’s account will be charged the current Disconnect Fee and
the time of all employees investigating.
If the meter or any other Cooperative equipment has been damaged, the consumer
will be charged current value for replacement.
A Diversion of Current Fee and estimated usage from billing history at that
location is to be billed to the account as a past-due, unpaid balance.
An additional deposit shall be required doubling the current amount of deposit
required in that consumer’s classification, or two months average bill,
whichever is less.
The consumer must come to the Cooperative office and pay all above charges
to have service reconnected.
Legal proceedings may be undertaken, including turning over all evidence to
the Sheriff’s Department in the county that the diversion occurred if
the account is not settled.
In addition to being theft, diversion of current situations are also extremely
dangerous. Anytime a meter is tampered with, individuals run an extremely high
risk of electrocution.
