Youth Tour
Introduction Every year, Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative joins 1,000 other cooperatives throughout the United States to educate high school juniors about their government and the important role cooperatives serve. These students come from towns and small cities all over rural America. They are able to go because their electric cooperative believes education is important – education about electric cooperatives and education about America. Coosa Valley Electric sends its students on two expenses-paid trips: the first to their state capital and the second to our nation’s capital. Students learn about electric cooperatives, Alabama and American history and Alabama and U.S. governments. They attend educational seminars and visit historical sights in and around Montgomery and Washington, D.C. In Montgomery the students visit places such as the Rosa Parks and Hank
Williams museums, Old Alabama Town and the Alabama State House and Senate
chambers among other sights. On their trip to the Washington, D.C., area
the students enjoy sights that include Arlington Cemetery, the monuments,
U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian and Mt. Vernon.
