CVEC, MAX Credit Union Offer Energy Efficiency Loans

Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative has partnered with MAX Credit Union to offer members a convenient, no-hassle loan option to finance energy efficiency improvements for their homes.

The Energy Efficiency Loan Program, which began in 2012 but was revamped in 2025, has approved 359 loans totaling nearly $2.5 million. Loan funds may be used for eligible energy efficiency upgrades, including heat pump purchase, installation and tune-ups; duct repair or replacement; attic, floor, perimeter or exterior wall insulation (foam or cellulose only); air sealing; heat pump water heater purchase and installation; water heater blanket and pipe insulation; attic ventilation; insulated doors; energy-efficient windows; window tinting; programmable thermostats and mobile home skirting. All installations and improvements must be performed by a licensed contractor.

Loan amounts range from $2,000 to $20,000 when a heat pump is included. Repayment terms are available for up to 10 years with a heat pump or up to five years without. Loans feature competitive interest rates and no monthly fees.

“Energy efficiency and weatherization projects can make a real difference in comfort, reliability and long-term energy savings for our members,” said Lucas Browning, CVEC energy services representative. “This program helps remove financial barriers so members can make improvements that reduce energy use and lower monthly bills.”

He said the partnership with MAX Credit Union streamlines the loan process for members.

“This loan program is designed to be straightforward and member-focused,” Browning said. “By working with MAX Credit Union, we’re able to offer a simple application process and flexible financing options that directly benefit CVEC members.”

To be eligible, members must have received electric service from CVEC for at least one year, own the dwelling and be in good standing with CVEC. Applicants must also meet income and credit requirements, including a minimum FICO score of 625 and a debt-to-income ratio of 45 percent.
