From the dense woodlands of Talladega to the sprawling fields of Shelby County, each mile of fiber optic cable laid by Coosa Valley Technologies (CVT) is another step in keeping our promise to this region.
In 2020, we pledged to provide every Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative member with fast, reliable internet. By early 2024, not only did we fulfill this promise — we beat our own timeline.
As of today, every CVEC member can access our state-of-the-art fiber network. Previously, many relied on outdated copper lines that lagged in speed and reliability. The CVT upgrade means true fiber optic service with symmetrical upload and download speeds up to 1 gigabit. This leap forward now empowers roughly 6,000 subscribers, including 160 commercial accounts — enhancing the operations of local businesses and the lives of residents.
Early in 2024, our track record of success and strategic foresight secured CVT nearly $20 million in state grants. These funds are earmarked for an ambitious expansion to more than double our network’s reach in Central Alabama, extending fiber services to underserved rural communities including Pell City, Munford, White Plains, Piedmont, Jacksonville, and parts of Shelby County.
As we expand our network, we’re also deepening our community impact. Despite being a smaller player in the vast internet arena, CVT prides itself on delivering a local, hometown touch — something our members deeply value. From our modest beginning with just 9 employees and dreams of connecting 5,000 subscribers, we’re now on track to surpass 10,000 subscribers in record time.
Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of people in rural Central Alabama by offering an invaluable service in today’s modern world and serving our members well. That’s a promise we intend to keep.
