Every month, Alabama Living arrives in mailboxes across the Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative service area. The magazine brings readers stories of community, innovation, history, and the everyday people who make Alabama unique. It’s a reflection of the communities they call home.
Now, CVEC is asking its members to help shape those pages. CVEC wants members to share story suggestions that highlight the heart and spirit of the region.
“We know our members have incredible stories to tell,” said Jackie Edmondson, CVEC’s manager of marketing and member services and the co-op editor of Alabama Living. “Some of the best features come straight from our communities. They’re compelling local success stories, hidden gems in our area and tales of neighbors doing extraordinary things. We want to hear what matters to our members and write about those topics.”
What Makes a Great Story?
Those who read Alabama Living know it covers a wide range of topics, so there’s plenty of room for member ideas. Not sure where to start? Here are a few story angles that might spark inspiration:
- Local Heroes: Know someone making a difference – a volunteer, teacher, first responder or community leader who deserves recognition?
- Hidden Gems: There are family-owned restaurants and off-the-beaten-path attractions in the area. What are the places others should know about?
- Unique Hobbies or Talents: Readers love seeing what their neighbors create. Know a woodworker, quilter or a classic car restorer? We want to tell their stories and show their talents.
- Agriculture and Rural Living: Farming traditions, backyard gardening or innovative approaches to sustainable living all make compelling reads.
- Community Traditions or Events: Let’s promote annual festivals, fundraisers or gatherings that capture the spirit of your town.
- Energy-Saving Success Stories: Have you made changes at home that reduced your energy use or improved efficiency? Share your experience.
- Historic Stories: Every community has a story rooted in the past, from historical landmarks to longtime family legacies. Let’s keep those stories alive.
Your Voice Matters
The cooperative model is built on member participation, and this is just another way members can get involved, Edmondson said.
“By submitting story ideas, readers help ensure Alabama Living continues to reflect the real-life experiences and interests of the people CVEC serves,” she said. “If there’s a story that inspires you or makes your community special, we can help tell it. Sometimes a simple idea turns into something truly meaningful.”
How to Submit
Submitting a story idea is easy. Members can send suggestions, along with any details, photos, or contact information, directly by emailing CVEC. Every submission is welcome. Preference is given to those who are CVEC members, Coosa Valley Propane customers, or Coosa Valley Technologies subscribers.
