Working from home is something many have become familiar with over the last several years. What once seemed unusual has now become part of everyday life for many families. Some companies have shifted to hybrid schedules, allowing employees to split time between the office and home, while others have moved to fully remote work environments altogether.

While working remotely offers flexibility and convenience, it also comes with new needs. Home offices, quiet spaces, and dependable internet connections have become essential parts of the workday.

For Kendall Carlisle, working from home allows her to balance both her career and family life. Kendall is a registered nurse, wife, and mother of 2 young boys, Luke and Grayson. Before transitioning to remote work, Kendall worked in Labor and Delivery at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Today, she works as a care manager for AlaHealth, a healthcare administration and program management company, helping Medicaid recipients access healthcare resources and benefits available to them.

“I meet with Medicaid recipients to make sure they’re going to their doctor appointments and have access to the benefits and resources they need,” Kendall said. “A lot of what I do is helping people stay on track with their healthcare.”

Thanks to remote work, Kendall Carlisle can build a career without leaving the comfort of a smaller community. She is pictured with her husband, Ethan, and their sons, Luke and Grayson.

Although she still visits patients throughout the week, much of her workday now happens from her home office, where she handles patient calls, follow-up check-ins, and charting remotely. With a dual-monitor setup, family photos lining her desk, and a comfortable office chair, Kendall has created a workspace that allows her to stay productive while remaining close to her family.

“I honestly don’t think I could go back to driving to RMC every day,” Kendall said with a laugh. “Now I have the time to pick the boys up from daycare, plan my schedule around our family, and still get all my work done. It’s been so much better for us.”

Living in Lincoln was an easy choice for Kendall and her husband, Ethan. Being close to family and lifelong friends was something they both valued, and they love the slower pace that comes with small-town living.

“We love where we live,” Kendall said. “Our family and friends are close by, and that means everything when you’re raising kids. Life is just quieter and more peaceful here, and honestly, I wouldn’t trade that for anything.”

Reliable fiber internet from Coosa Valley Technologies has made it possible for Kendall to continue her career from home without sacrificing the lifestyle her family enjoys.

“Good internet really makes all the difference,” she said. “I’m on video calls, uploading patient information, and working online all day long. If the internet is slow, it affects everything.”

Ethan says having dependable internet has benefited the entire family, not just Kendall’s workday.

“With both of us using our phones and the boys playing on their iPads or watching Toy Story for the millionth time, we need internet that can handle all of it,” Ethan said. “Thankfully, we really haven’t had to worry about it.”

For many residents across Coosa Valley Technologies’ service area, fiber internet has opened the door to opportunities that once required long commutes or moving closer to larger cities. Today, more families are discovering they can enjoy small-town living while staying connected to careers, education, and healthcare from home.

“People think you have to move to a bigger city to have certain jobs,” Kendall said. “But honestly, with reliable internet, you really can have both. You can build a career and still live somewhere you truly love.”

At Coosa Valley Technologies, we believe you shouldn’t have to leave the community you love to pursue new opportunities. Whether it’s working remotely, streaming, online learning, or staying connected with family and friends, reliable fiber internet helps make it possible.
