The Power of Fatherhood

There’s something timeless about the image of a father and his children. It’s a picture that tells a story without saying a word. It’s a picture of guidance, protection, patience, and love.

Father’s Day, as we know it, has its roots in the early 20th century. Inspired by a Mother’s Day sermon, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd sought to honor her own father, a Civil War veteran who raised 6 children on his own in Arkansas. What began as a small, local observance in 1910 gradually grew into a national tradition, officially recognized in 1972.

On this Father’s Day, we recognize the quiet, steady presence of fathers and father figures who shape our lives and wear many hats. They are teachers, protectors, and encouragers. Sometimes, they make the biggest impact by simply “being there,” listening, laughing, and reminding us that we are not alone.

In many ways, being a father mirrors the work done every day by the men of Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative, Coosa Valley Technologies, and Coosa Valley Propane. It’s work that often happens behind the scenes – early in the morning and late at night, in the heat, cold, rain, and sleet. Whether they’re keeping the lights on, connecting families through reliable internet, or ensuring homes stay warm and comfortable, their commitment helps power everyday life across our communities.

But, beyond the poles, pipelines, and connections, they are fathers, too. They are the ones coaching Little League after a long day in the field. They are the ones helping with homework at the kitchen table. They are the ones showing up to recitals and ballgames – sometimes still in their work boots. They understand what it means to serve, both at work and at home, and they carry that responsibility with pride.

As you see the faces of these fathers and their children, you’re not just seeing snapshots. You’re seeing legacy in motion. You’re seeing small moments that become lifelong memories. You’re seeing the impact of a steady hand and a caring heart.

This Father’s Day, we celebrate the men who keep our homes bright in more ways than 1. We honor the fathers who power our communities through electricity, connectivity, and comfort, but, most importantly, with love, strength, and unwavering commitment.

Happy Father’s Day!
